David Allan Coe's career is a checkered one: from prison musician to Top Ten country star to singer - songwriter of the infamous "X rated" albums whose extreme racial and sexual content were to forever establish his reputation as that of a hardened reprobate. Over the years his outspoken diatribes, combined with his uncanny song-writing skills, have resulted in his elevation to the level of cult icon among some, even as they continue to alienate others. Field of Stone portrays, with a patient eye, at once unsparing and generous, the present day life of this aging outlaw.
